The 3rd National Technical Seminar on Technology Innovation and Comprehensive Utilization in Coal Chemical Industry co-organized by Shanghai Huaxi Chemical Industry Science & Technology Co., Ltd. (“HCIST”) was successfully held on April 25 in Jilin. At the seminar, HCIST’s General Manager Mr. JI Zhiyuan made a special speech on coking coal tar hydrogenation technology and coke-oven gas to LNG technology for industrial applications.
In his speech, JI Zhiyuan detailed the patented isothermal methanation technology owned by HCIST. Manger JI took the Qujing project in Yunnan as an example (HCIST and Qujing Kirin Gas Co., Ltd. entered into an EPC contract at early 2010, and the project was put into production at the end of 2012.). He made a conclusion as follows by comprehensive comparison of some old processes and the operational data generated from Qujing project (based on the data generated from 30-day continuous operation):
1. CO\CO₂ conversion rate: CO conversion rate: 99.95%, CO₂ conversion rate: 99.9% (much more than conventional catalysts), the CO₂ can be reduced to a very low level by methanation without the CO₂ degas process, significantly reduce the investment and operation costs.
2. Efficient methanation catalyst: longer life.
3. Low energy consumption: no consumptions of electricity and water.
4. Less investment cost: compared with the international multi-stage isothermic-bed methanation technology, the investment cost of the one-stage isothermic-bed methanation technology developed by HCIST was reduced by more than 70%.
Mr. JI said that currently the coke-oven gas in domestic coking industry was mainly used for urban gas and methanol. As the new emission standard was issued by the central government, the coke oven gas directly being emitted in to the air was no longer permitted. And how to comprehensively and efficientlymake use of the coke-oven gas became a new development opportunity. Based on the above data and taken the standard 25,000 m3/hour as an example, using the one-stage isothermic-bed methanation technology developed by HCIST would help lessen20 million RMB in investment, 15 million RMB in proprietary technology cost, and 1.5 million in annual operating cost.
The technology helped not only efficiently use the coke-oven gas to produce high economic growth, but also protect the environment. Mr. JI also said he was pleased to see the development and successful application of this technology, and to see the contribution to environment, to future generations and to the country.
